Woman allegedly takes vengeance on pickup

A 30-year-old former Oak Harbor woman is accused of stealing her ex-boyfriend’s pickup and vandalizing it, according to court documents.

Angela Berrios pleaded not guilty Feb. 19 in Island County Superior Court to a charge of taking a motor vehicle without permission in the second degree and malicious mischief in the first degree.

Oak Harbor Police Officer Patrick Horn wrote in his report that a SE Regatta Drive resident reported Jan. 20 that his 1996 Chevrolet Colorado crew cab was missing from his driveway. The 24-year-old man said only he and his ex-girlfriend, Berrios, had keys to the car. Berrios is in the Navy and had moved to Florida, but was in Oak Harbor visiting at the time.

Later in the day, the truck was found on Taylor Road. More than $1,500 worth of damage was done to the truck, including scratched paint, broken side view mirrors, a broken glove box, flatten tires and a cracked windshield.

Berrios allegedly admitted to taking the car and vandalizing it with a female friend, the report states.
