Two treated for injuries after cars collide at Swantown, Highway 20

Two people were transported to the hospital with minor injuries after a driver’s medical problem caused an accident Tuesday night in Oak Harbor.

A man driving a Volkswagen Jetta on Swantown Road toward State Highway 20 at approximately 7:50 p.m. was unable to stop at the intersection because of the medical episode, according to investigators.

The man’s Jetta hit a Kia Forte in the left turn lane on the highway, according to Oak Harbor Police Capt. Bill Wilke.

A passenger in the Jetta managed to pull the emergency brake to slow down the car.

Both cars sustained significant damage on their front ends and both driver side airbags deployed, Wilke said.

The passenger in the Jetta reported suffering no injuries.

The roadway was completely blocked for about an hour during the incident.
