Skagit Valley College holds 92nd annual commencement ceremony in Oak Harbor

Skagit Valley College held its 92nd annual commencement on June 21 in the Oak Harbor High School gymnasium.

There were 1,386 degrees, certificates and diplomas awarded to 1,158 students, including 235 from Whidbey Island Campus.

615 Academic Degrees were awarded, including from 151 Whidbey Island Campus.

Also, 140 high school diplomas, including 66 from the High School 21+ program, of which were 27 from Whidbey Island Campus.

There were 51 Whidbey Island Campus Running Start students who graduated this year.

The college had 29 students who received the President’s Medal.

The college had international students graduating this year from Brazil, Canada, China, Haiti, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.

Each year, Whidbey Island Campus students recognize faculty and staff members who demonstrate exceptional performance inside and outside the classroom.

This year, Jennifer Lawson, basic education for adults instructor, received the exceptional full-time faculty award. Jennifer Brooks, teaching aide I, received the exceptional part-time faculty award. Dr. Gail Bruce, associate dean for the Whidbey Island Campus, received the full-time staff award. Kathie Reyes, student services office assistant 3, received the Classified Staff Award.
