Oak Harbor School District officials want local families to be aware that an unidentified company is trying to hit parents up for a bogus fundraiser.

The company is calling parents and asking them to buy advertising rights on a T-shirt to benefit local middle schools.

The district sent out an email blast to parents that said in part: “We would like to advise that Oak Harbor Schools are not part of any such effort and we encourage families not to respond to anyone making these claims.”

The district has received dozens of calls today from parents about the company, said district spokeswoman Kellie Tormey.

“One woman said they were trying to get $300 out of her and they were really pushy about it,” she said.

If you have information about the source of the phone calls or happened to notice the number on your caller ID, the district is asking you to call them at 360-279-5000.
