Oak Harbor man admits to child molestation, police say

An Oak Harbor man admitted to sexually abusing a disabled 12-year-old girl multiple times and told police he wanted to get help, court documents state.

Prosecutors charged Michael K. Beshirs, 26, in Island County Superior Court April 19 with rape of a child in the second degree, child molestation in the first degree, two counts of child molestation in the second degree and indecent liberties.

Beshirs is being held in jail on $200,000 bail.

Detectives with the Oak Harbor police learned about the alleged assaults after the child’s sibling disclosed them to an adult April 15, according to the police report.

Police interviewed the 12-year-old girl, who said Beshirs had been touching her in an inappropriate manner for about three years, according to the report.

Officers interviewed Beshirs, who admitted to sexually assaulting the child dozens of times, the report states.

He said he was molested as a child and tried to get help for his problems, but was turned away by mental-health services.

Beshirs allegedly told the officers that he would admit to the offenses so that he could finally get help.

In addition, Beshirs said he knew what he was doing was wrong and that it would cause the child “psychological problems,” the report states.
