A mother and her son escaped a fire that destroyed her mobile home Tuesday afternoon at the Wagon Wheel Mobile Home Park off Heller Road in Oak Harbor.
The woman smelled smoke but couldn’t identify where it was coming from, said Mark Kirko, deputy fire chief for North Whidbey Fire and Rescue. She called for help around 12:30 p.m.
By the time rescuers arrive, the home was engulfed in flames. It’s not clear what started the fire, he said.
The statewide drought could mean water restriction in the future for some residents.
