Joseph Mosolino, owner of Windermere Real Estate South Whidbey, has been appointed to the Conservation Futures Citizens Advisory Board.

The Island County commissioners selected Mosolino to fill a vacant seat on the group at the board’s regular Monday meeting in Coupeville.

The boards’ decision was unanimous.

According to Mosolino’s letter of interest, he lives in Oak Harbor and has been a resident of Island County for 16 years. Along with being the owner and managing broker of the Windermere franchise in South Whidbey, is an active member of the Washington Association of Realtors.

He also experience on various state boards, such as the Legislative Steering Committee and Land and Water Use Committee, and has a bachelor’s in communications and public relations, and a master’s in public administration.

“My reasons for requesting consider for the position are from genuine, deep appreciation for the important work of the Conservation Futures Fund and an understanding of the complex challenges surrounding the decision-making process affecting the fund,” Mosolino said in his letter of interest.

“I feel that a member of the real estate community and especially a member of the Realtor’s association can be an important asset to the Conservation Futures Advisory Board.”

The Conservation Futures Fund is an annual revenue source funded by property taxes dedicated toward purchasing open space land, farmland, agricultural land, and timber land for conservation purposes.

Applications undergo an extensive examination process by two review bodies: the Technical Advisory Group and the Citizens Advisory Board. Both are advisory groups that make recommendations to the board.

Terms are for three years.
