Hydro racing Saturday, Sunday in Oak Harbor

Nearly 50 hydroplanes will compete as the third Hydros for Heroes event returns to Oak Harbor, starting at 10:15 a.m. on Saturday.

The opening ceremony begins at 10 a.m.

Race fans will be able to see the boats up close at the pits at Oak Harbor Marina and Flintstone Park. Watching the charity event is free, but seating in the VIP section — which includes food, drink and the closest view possible — can be purchased for $100.

Free autographs will be offered in the pits at 1 p.m., during a break in racing. Live music at the beer garden runs from 5-8:30 p.m. Saturday.

Racing resumes on Sunday at 11:10 a.m.

Hydros for Heroes, sponsored by The Craig McKenzie Team Foundation of Keller Williams and supported by the Rotary Club of Oak Harbor, highlights community heroes such as the personnel at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, police officers, firefighters, teachers and health care professionals, according to the website.
