Hearing examiner to consider rezone, variance

The public is welcome to comment during an Oak Harbor hearing examiner meeting on a requested rezone and variance next week.

The public hearing will be at 1:30 p.m. March 26 at City Hall.

The hearing examiner will consider a request to rezone property located at 1850 Ida Place, which is on the south side of Southwest Fort Nugent Avenue and east of Southwest Stremler Drive, according to the city’s notice.

The property owner is asking for a rezone in order to build apartments with 58 units in a mix of two- and three-story buildings. Under the current R-2 zoning, the number of units would be limited to 44. The property owner wants it changed it R-3 zoning, which allows for a maximum of 60 units.

In addition, the hearing examiner will consider a request for a variance for “Oak Grove lot 4.” The property owner wants a variance on the minimum density requirement under the R-4 zoning on property at 1188 SE Pioneer Way. Currently, the minimum density is five units, but the request is to place four units on the proper rather than five because of several easements that limit the amount of developable land.

The hearing examiner will consider information from the applicant, city staff and the public and then approve or deny the applications. As part of any approval, conditions or limitations may be imposed, the city notices states.
