A family of four was left homeless after a fire on North Whidbey Sunday.

Marv Koorn, chief of North Whidbey Fire and Rescue, said firefighters responded to a blaze at a manufactured home on Troxell Road at about 4:30 p.m. They found flames were shooting out from underneath a bedroom that was also on fire.

Koorn said firefighters were able to knock out the fire underneath the structure pretty quickly. They went inside the bedroom to finish the job.

A man was home alone at the time the fire started. His wife and two kids were gone and due back that evening.

Nobody was injured, but Koorn said there was fire and smoke damage throughout the house. He’s not sure if the home is a total loss or if it can be mended.

The cause of the fire is being investigated, Koorn said, but he speculated that it was probably accidental.
