Driver plunges car into Oak Harbor bay

A driver rounding the corner on Bayshore Drive last Thursday night lost control and ended up in the water near Flintstone Park.

The driver, 20, was uninjured and was out of his car by the time police arrived, according to Oak Harbor Police Capt. Bill Wilke.

A fisherman said he saw the bottom of the vehicle as it flew over the edge above his head and into the water.

The driver was headed toward Midway Boulevard at around 9:20 p.m. when the incident happened.

A tow truck removed the vehicle from the water.

“If you’re going at a high rate of speed, you’re not going to be able to negotiate any corner,” Wilke said.
