Ferndale got off to a quick start to defeat the visiting Oak Harbor High School boys basketball team 56-48 Monday, Jan. 18, in a nonleague game.

The Golden Eagles (8-6) outscored Oak Harbor 9-0 in the first two minutes, and Oak Harbor couldn’t quite catch up.

Ferndale led 16-10, 32-24 and 42-34 at the quarter breaks.

“We played really good team defense tonight and rebounded pretty well despite a huge disadvantage in size,” Oak Harbor coach John Weston said.

“I thought we competed pretty well tonight; however, we lacked some execution on the offensive end and had a hard time chipping away at their lead.”

Dyllan Harris broke “out of his scoring slump,” Weston said, and led the Wildcats with 24 points.

“We had some good contributions from (Josh) Cote and (Taeson) Hardin as well,” Weston added.

Cote finished with seven points and Hardin eight.

Diangelo McKinney added five, Ozell Jackson two and Princeton Lollar two.

The Wildcats (0-3, 1-12) will attempt to pick up their first conference win when they host Marysville-Pilchuck (2-1, 3-9) at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19.
