Burglary leads to streaking

A man is facing a felony charge after he allegedly broke into a vacant home and partied with other people there last month, according to police.

An officer who interrupted the goings-on observed an unusual scene as a group of people, including at least one naked woman, ran from the home, the police report says.

Prosecutors charged the suspect, Austin J. Wakefield, 20, in Island County Superior Court Aug. 28 with residential burglary.

Court documents identify him as a Bow resident.

Oak Harbor police officers responding to a 911 hang-up call Aug. 23 at a house on Southwest Sixth Avenue were met with people skedaddling from the premises.

One woman later told officers that she was homeless and showering with other people when someone yelled that the police were in the house; she and another woman ran down the street sans garments.

One of the people at the party told police that Wakefield broke in the back door of the house, which was for sale, the police report states. People were at the home to see Wakefield, who was leaving town, according to the report.

If convicted of the charge, Wakefield could face from three to nine months in jail.
