Severe weather stopped the ferry Wednesday and kept Whidbey Islanders from attending a ferry meeting in Port Townsend.

The high winds and heavy seas prompted the cancellation of ferry service on the Keystone to Port Townsend ferry route beginning at 3:45 p.m. Those cancellations continued throughout the day.

That prevented Whidbey Island residents from attending the meeting hosted by the Washington State Ferries that began at 5:15 p.m. in downtown Port Townsend. The Keystone to Port Townsend run was the focus of the meeting.

Thursday, ferry officials recommended that islanders instead attend another meeting, scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 19, 6:30 p.m., at the Clinton Community Hall, 6411 Central Ave., Clinton.
