A 19-year-old Oak Harbor woman was charged with felony assault for throwing a knife out a bedroom window at her drunken husband, court documents state.
Prosecutors charged Megan Roberts in Island County Superior Court Oct. 12 with assault in the second degree with a deadly weapon. It was filed as a domestic violence crime.
Roberts’ husband, a 21-year-old Navy man, told Oak Harbor Police Officer Cedric Niiro about the alleged assault on the night of Oct. 7. The man said he was out drinking with friends and came home at about 11 p.m., but his wife wouldn’t let him into the master bedroom.
The man said he needed his phone charger, so he went outside and tried to open the bedroom window. He got the window open slightly and continued arguing with Roberts, who had their 9-month-old child with her.
The man claimed Roberts threatened to kill him, pulled a large K-Bar knife from a nightstand, opened the window the rest of the way and threw the weapon at him, Niiro wrote.
The man said the knife narrowly missed his head. He went to a neighbor’s home and called 911.
If convicted of the charge, Roberts could face from three to nine months in jail under the standard sentencing range.
