Island County will conduct a public hearing about a plan to restrict the discharge of firearms near Deer Lagoon.

The hearing takes place Monday, Oct. 12, 6 p.m., in the Freeland Hall, 1515 Shoreline Dr., Freeland.

The county owns approximately 379 acres near Deer Lagoon and the ordinance will prohibit the discharge of firearms on the county property, a move that in the past has been opposed by waterfowl hunters.

A copy of the ordinance is available at the county’s Web page, www.islandcounty.net, or by request. Call the county public works department at 679-7331 for more information.
