A 2.5 percent fare increase for Washington State Ferries will go into effect Sunday, Oct. 11.

For the Port Townsend to Keystone route, adult passengers will pay $2.65 each way and a car and driver fare will cost $9.15.

For the Clinton to Mukilteo route, adult passengers will pay $4.10 from Mukilteo only and a car and driver fare will cost $7 both ways.

The Washington State Transportation Commission approved the across-the-board fare increase last month, which is the first such increase in two years.

When they approved the increase, commission members also rejected a proposed 10 percent summer surcharge that would have been levied each July and August. The surcharge would have been in addition to the peak-season prices riders already pay.
