Oak Harbor High School staff, students mourn student’s death

Students and staff in the Oak Harbor School District are mourning the loss of a high school student who died Wednesday night.

The student attended Oak Harbor High School.

The student’s name is not being released by the school district nor are the circumstances surrounding the student’s death.

Kellie Tormey, communications coordinator for Oak Harbor schools, said the death is being investigated by the Island County Sheriff’s Department.

Detective Ed Wallace with the Island County Sheriff’s Office said the death is not considered to be suspicious.

An investigation is ongoing.

Tormey said a crisis team was mobilized with additional staff providing grief counseling at the high school.
