Police want to know if you’ve noticed anyone with green paint on their hands lately.

Oak Harbor Police Chief Steve Almon said police are investigation a recent vandalism spree in the southwest area of the city.

It was all done in green spray-paint, Almon said, and some of the graffiti had to do with Vikings. Residents reported seven spray-paint vandalism cases Tuesday. Three other cases were reported over the weekend.

Investigators believe at least a couple of people are responsible for graffiti spray-painted on cars, garages and homes on S.W. Tahoe Street, S.W. Sixteenth Drive, S.W. Seventeenth Avenue and other streets in the area.

Over the weekend, vandals hit the nearby Fireside development.

Almon said he’s unsure what the connection is between the vandals and Vikings, though some of the victims are in the VAQ-129 squadron, known as the “Vikings,” at the Navy base.

The vandals drew a symbol of a Viking head and also wrote disparaging comments about Vikings.

“Vandalism like that is a coward’s crime,” Almon said. “They are damaging property for no reason.”

Anyone with information about the graffiti should call the police at 279-4600.
