A school bus carrying three pre-schoolers was involved in an accident Thursday, leaving the kids unhurt and the bus driver with minor injuries.

The bus was making a right turn onto Heller Road from Swantown Road when a white Chevy Blazer that was making a left turn did not see the bus and side- swiped it, Washington State Patrol Trooper Zach Casey said.

“Be sure to yield left,” Casey warned the Blazer’s driver as he left the scene.

None of the three children were injured, but emergency crews transported the driver of the bus, Jamie Sanders, to Whidbey General Hospital as a precautionary measure, Casey said.

“The kids were absolutely great,” said Kathy Hughes, a trainer for the district’s bus drivers. “We went off the bus as little ducks.”

A State Patrol team inspected the bus for structural or mechanical damage, but found none other than the swath of black on the side of the bus from the Blazer’s bumper.

The driver of the Blazer, Phillip Harrison, also was unharmed.
