A Grinch with a wirecutter stole a little bit of Christmas Wednesday afternoon.

Capt. Rick Wallace with Oak Harbor Police said that a robber took a pot of money from a Salvation Army bell ringer stationed in front of the Post Office at about 4:30 p.m.

The man jogged up to the bell-wielding woman, cut the security wire on the collection pot and ran off with it. He was last seen running along Barrington Drive, pot in hand.

The holiday thief was a white man in his 30s with facial hair and brown hair on top. Wallace said police aren’t sure exactly what type of instrument he used to cut the wire. The case is being investigated as a strong-arm robbery, a serious felony, even though the man didn’t threaten the bell ringer.

Police have no suspects and haven’t recovered the red collection pot. Wallace said it’s unknown how much money was in the pot.
