Two Oak Harbor High School teams will take part in state tournament competition at identical times tonight, Nov. 15.

The Wildcat football team kicks off the first round of the state playoffs at 7 p.m. against Ballard at the new Mount Vernon High School stadium.

It’s the team’s second appearance in the state playoffs in as many years and only the third time they made it since 1983.

Although it’s technically a “home” game, the team has to travel to Mount Vernon. Oak Harbor’s home field at Memorial Stadium is substandard and can’t be used in playoff competition.

Prices for the state game are $7 for adults, $5 for students and $5 for seniors.

The new stadium is located on the Mount Vernon High School campus. To get to MVHS take the College Way exit off I-5. Follow College Way to Laventure. Turn right on Laventure and follow to East Division Street. Turn right on East Division and follow until you reach North Ninth Street. The school and the new stadium are located on your right.

For those who can’t make it to the game, tonight’s contest can be heard locally on KWDB 1110 AM.

If Oak Harbor wins tonight, they will host a quarterfinal playoff game at MVHS on Nov. 21 or Nov. 22 against either Kentlake or Lincoln. The semifinal and championship games will take place at the Tacoma Dome.

The Oak Harbor girls soccer team plays a quarterfinal state game at 7 p.m., tonight, at Redmond High School. If they win they will advance to the semifinals on Nov. 21 at Lakewood Stadium near Tacoma.
