"Ferry changes: surcharge ends, Keystone run reduced"

"Ferry tickets cost less, and one boat has been removed from the Keystone/Port Townsend ferry run.The Peak Season Surcharge of 20 percent was eliminated on all runs beginning last Sunday. The surcharge has been in effect since May 14. That means, for example, that a car and driver will cost $4.50 on the Clinton/Mukilteo run rather than the surcharge cost of $6.50.As of Tuesday, the Keystone/Port Townsend route was reduced to one boat as called for in the ferry system's late fall schedule.A single boat is scheduled to operate through Feb. 10.In other ferry news, two public open houses are scheduled this week to provide information about the upcoming closure of the Mukilteo dock for wingwall repairs.Beginning Nov. 27, the Mukilteo dock will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sundays through Fridays, continuing until Feb. 15. However, the regular schedule will be followed Dec. 23-26 for Christmas and Dec. 30-Jan. 1 for New Year's traffic.During the midday Mukilteo closures, car ferries will use the Edmonds dock. A special passenger-only ferry will take foot passengers between Clinton and Mukilteo.Drop-in open houses to discuss the changes on the Clinton-Mukilteo route are scheduled today (Wednesday), Oct. 11, from 4 to 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 14, from 9 a.m. to noon. They will be at Trinity Lutheran Church, Highway 525, Freeland. "
