A 36-year-old Oak Harbor woman was found dead in her Fir Valley Apartment unit Monday afternoon.

An acquaintance of the deceased reportedly found the body at approximately 1:15 p.m. when she went to check on the tenant. Oak Harbor Police Chief Rick Wallace said the case is under investigation, but with no sign of violence and the presence of other contributing factors, suicide is likely the cause of death.

“Preliminarily, it appears to be suicide, but we’re not classifying that for sure pending the forensic investigation,” he said, adding that detectives are working with the coroner’s office on what has been classified an unattended death.

Wallace implored anyone with information about the death to call the Oak Harbor Police Department at 279-4600 and ask for Detective Mike Bailey or Lt. Tim Sterkel.
