A pregnant woman was transported to Whidbey General Hospital Wednesday morning because of a head-on collision on West Beach Road near Oak Harbor.
The 21-year-old woman was driving a Nissan 240SX south on West Beach Road near Even Down when a Ford SUV collided with her, according to the Washington State Patrol.
The SUV was driven by 30-year-old Brian Burley. Trooper Mark Francis said Burley had just finished work when he apparently fell asleep at the wheel. The SUV crossed the center line and crashed with the oncoming car. Troopers are still confirming the name of the woman driving the Nissan.
Francis said the occupants of both cars were transported to Whidbey General Hospital. Burley was transported as a precautionary measure while the woman sustained possible leg injuries and she is in the third trimester of her pregnancy.
West Beach Road in the area of the accident remains closed while the Washington State Patrol continues to investigate.
Francis said any possible citations or charges are still pending.
