Judges among first to run

Only incumbents filed for Island County offices by noon Tuesday.

Superior Court judges Vickie Churchill and Alan Hancock, Auditor Sheilah Crider and Commissioners Phil Bakke and Mac McDowell filled out their paperwork Monday.

Challengers for the commissioner positions have already announced themselves, but haven’t filed. Nobody has publicly said they are interested in challenging the judges or auditor.

In other races, Oak Harbor resident Sarah Hart, a member of the new America’s Third Party, filed for the state Sen. Mary Margaret Haugen’s seat. Rep. Norma Smith, a Republican from Clinton, filed to keep her District 10 position. Former Snohomish County Sheriff Rick Bart signed up to take on U.S. Rep. Rick Larsen.

In-person candidate filing at the Island County Auditor’s Office in Coupeville ends at 4:30 p.m., June 6.
