Oak Harbor woman charged after drunken revenge plot

A 44-year-old Oak Harbor woman is accused of breaking into her ex-boyfriend’s home, burning his belongings in the backyard and driving drunk, court documents state.

Prosecutors charged Lynn C. Johnson in Island County Superior Court Nov. 28 with burglary, malicious mischief in the second degree, DUI (0.15 BAC or higher) and hit and run. She pleaded not guilty Dec. 10.

Lt. Mike Hawley with the Island County Sheriff’s Office investigated the case after receiving a 911 call about a red Dodge Ram pickup striking a guard rail at the intersection of Sleeper Road and Highway 20. The caller reported that the driver didn’t stop, even after the bumper fell off.

Hawley was diverted from responding by another 911 call. A Sleeper Road resident reported that he had returned home with his two sons to find his girlfriend, Johnson, in his backyard burning his belongings. The man said he saw her exiting his house carrying clothes that she tossed in a bonfire, Hawley wrote in his report.

The resident said Johnson drove off in a red Dodge pickup. He said she was upset because they broke up about five months ago and she discovered he was now engaged.

A state trooper pulled over the red Dodge pickup and arrested Johnson on suspicion of driving under the influence and hit and run. Two breath tests showed Johnson had a blood-alcohol content of 0.153 and 0.155, while 0.08 is the legal limit for drivers.

Johnson could face from six months to a year in jail if convicted of the charges.
