The Vancouver Sun reports that Forests Minister Rich Coleman’s Fraser Valley riding will receive a $15-million contribution towards a new arena/community centre.

This is an unusual “donation” from the department of forests, particularly to a riding that has little forest industry when compared to the north-central part of our province.

As Williams Lake is a big part of the forest industry, and contributes a large part of the revenue sustaining the department of forests, perhaps our council should be pursuing a grant for our arena/community centre as a return of some of our stumpage fees. It seems like a good idea to me.
