An 86-year-old Oak Harbor resident was transported to Whidbey General Hospital with several broken ribs and head lacerations after being involved in a one-vehicle traffic accident on Highway 20 north of Ault Field Road Monday afternoon.

Washington State Patrol officers report Joseph A. Thompson was southbound on Highway 20 at about 1:37 p.m. when the 1991 Ford Crown Victoria he was driving ran off the right side of the road.

Thompson struck two trees causing severe damage to the driver’s side of the vehicle before finally coming to rest against the side of a house.

Officers report Thompson may have suffered some kind of medical condition prior to the collision. He was the only occupant in the vehicle.

The vehicle was towed from the scene by A-1 Towing.

The accident remains under investigation.
