A 32-year-old man is accused of kneeing his pregnant wife in the stomach, choking her and then holding a knife to her throat while they were camping at Deception Pass last month, according to court documents.
The suspect, 32-year-old Jason P. Boomer, pleaded not guilty in Island County Superior Court Nov. 5 to two counts of second-degree assault, a domestic violence crime.
Boomer is described in court documents as an unemployed transient from the Bellingham area.
The alleged victim called 911 from Deception Pass State Park just before midnight on Oct. 20 and reported that her husband had a knife, but then hung up. Deputies with the Island County Sheriff’s Office combed the park until the frightened woman was found on a park trail.
The woman said that Boomer had run into the woods after she called for help. The deputy walked up a trail and found Boomer curled in a fetal position, trying to hide behind brush, according to the deputy’s report.
The woman claimed that Boomer assaulted her inside a tent at the park because he was upset that she couldn’t have sex, the report states.
She said he kneed her in the stomach and held a knife to her throat, threatening to kill her, the deputy wrote.
The woman said Boomer also choked her.
