Car strikes tree; Coupeville man injured

A 56-year-old Coupeville man was seriously injured in a one-car accident just before midnight Friday, Nov. 2.
The Washington State Patrol reported that Leo E. Mathis was driving a 1989 Dodge van westward on Libbey Road, just west of Highway 20, when the van left the road to the right and struck a tree.
The accident was reported at 11:47 p.m.
Mathis was seriously injured and airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for treatment. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
Mathis was in the intensive care unit in serious condition Tuesday morning, according to a Harborview spokesperson.
