HarvestFest is Saturday in Coupeville
The Coupeville Farmers Market hosts its annual HarvestFest on Saturday, Oct. 13 – the final market day of the year.
The market will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with the annual Giant Pumpkin Weigh-in set for 11 a.m. No registration or fee required for entry. Prizes will be awarded for the biggest pumpkin, the biggest pumpkin by a junior (age through middle school), the prettiest and ugliest pumpkins and the biggest zucchini. Past winners for this event have come from all over Whidbey Island. The grand champion three years ago was Coupeville resident Phil Renninger, with his 1,016-pound behemoth.
The event also includes the Harvest Relay Races, which raises money for Gifts from the Heart food bank. Teams of five raise a minimum of $100 in pledges to support the Gifts from the Heart food bank. The relays are open to groups of all sorts and ages, and costumed and "concept" teams are enthusiastically encouraged. Prizes will be awarded are the fastest time; the most money raised; and People's Choice.
Registration forms are available at the market and the food bank as well as Coupeville Town Hall and the Coupeville library. Teams also can sign up at the market just before the races begin at 11:45 a.m.
