Oak Harbor police are looking for three bandana-wearing suspects in a strong arm robbery that occurred near Kmart Monday afternoon.

Just before 2 p.m., a man reported that he “got jumped” by men wearing bandanas over their faces near the intersection of Oak Harbor Street and SW Third Avenue, according to the 911 log.

Capt. Rick Wallace with the Oak Harbor Police said the white male suspects punched the 27-year-old victim a couple of times and stole his hat and cellphone. The victim, who is known to police officers, claimed he couldn’t identify his attackers. He suffered minor injuries from the assault.

However, there is likely no need for residents in the area to worry about a roving gang mugging pedestrians. Wallace conjectured that the victim may have been targeted for some reason by the robbers, who might have known him and were more interested in assaulting him than stealing. Wallace noted they didn’t ask the man for his wallet or any money.

“I don’t think this was a random thing,” he said.
