A 2003 Oak Harbor High School graduate completed college, returned home, and just landed a job working for the Greenbank Farm trying to drum up more community use for the publicly-owned farm.

Steve Marriott has been named events manager for the farm. He takes over from Missy Villepudua.

Marriott recently finished his coursework at Eastern Washington University in Cheney where he majored in recreation management and outdoor recreation.

He decided to apply for the Greenbank position because he thought it would be a natural step in his career. He spent time in college planning and coordinating events in student leadership.

“I’ve been good at working with people,” Marriott said.

His primary goal is to better inform residents about the farm and its availability to the community.

“There’s a lot of people on the island who don’t understand this is their community center to use,” Marriott said. He hopes to get more aggressive with marketing the farm.

Marriott previously worked at a wilderness therapy program for troubled youth. He lives in Oak Harbor with his wife, Debra, who is a substitute teacher. They have a son, Gavin, and a second child due in July.
