Man faces domestic violence charges

A 38-year-old Oak Harbor man pleaded not guilty in Island County Superior Court Feb. 19 to two charges involving domestic violence, according to court documents.
Prosecutors charged Brian Bagwell Feb. 19 with unlawful imprisonment and assault in the fourth degree.
This was the second time in six months that Bagwell was charged with committing domestic violence. Bagwell was charged with the exact same counts after a separate incident with the woman last August. He was about to serve a two-week commitment when the recent altercation occurred.
Two different women who were playing outside with their children in the Swan Drive neighborhood reported to police that Bagwell had assaulted the 21-year-old woman and forced her inside the house against her will, court documents state.
Oak Harbor Police Officer Jason Holland wrote in his report that the alleged victim said Bagwell got upset after she told him she wanted to break up with him. She claimed he assaulted her and physically tried to prevented her from leaving, then dragged her back inside when she did escape, the report states.
If convicted of the charges, Bagwell would face from four months to a year in jail under the standard sentencing range.
