Island County planning seeks to fill vacancy
April 17, 2012 · 1:39 PM
The Island County Board of Commissioners is seeking to fill a spot on the county’s planning commission that became vacant when Camano Island resident William Lippens resigned to take a job in another location.
Applicants must live within Commissioner District 3, which covers North Whidbey and Camano Island. The term expires on Jan. 2, 2014.
The county commissioners appoint planning commission members for four-year terms. The planning commission consists of nine members, three from each county commissioner district.
The planning commission, considered the most high-profile of volunteer boards, generally meets on the second and fourth Tuesdays at 9 a.m. in the Courthouse Annex hearing room in Coupeville. Some meetings are held in the evenings and sometimes on Camano Island. Meetings run two to six hours or more. Preparation is necessary.
Service on the planning commission is unpaid; however, members may obtain reimbursement for travel expenses to and from meetings.
To apply, send a letter of interest, statement of qualifications and resume to: Island County Board of Commissioners, Attn: Pam Dill, Re: Planning Commission Vacancies, P.O. Box 5000, Coupeville, WA 98239, by 4:30 p.m. Monday, April 30.
