Fire district sells levy hike proposal

January 10, 2012 · Updated 1:53 PM

Central Whidbey Fire and Rescue will host a series of open houses this week in connection with its planned levy-lid request in February.

The meetings, which started Monday at the district’s headquarters on Race Road, aim to inform the public about the services the department provides and the challenges it’s facing.

The remaining open house schedule is as follows: Wednesday, Jan. 11 from 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, Jan. 14 from 8 to 11 a.m. Pancakes will be served Saturday.

A decline in volunteers and an aging fleet is impacting the organization’s ability to adequately respond to emergencies, according to a Central Whidbey announcement of the open houses.
