The suspect in the stabbing of a Freeland couple admitted attacking his parents, the Island County Sheriff's Office said Monday.
Sean Paul Demerchant was arrested on two counts of first-degree domestic violence assault late Sunday after allegedly attacking his mother and father.
Sheriff Mark Brown said deputies responding to a 911 call on Dolphin Drive at 10:40 p.m. Oct. 9 discovered Paul W. Demerchant, 73, and his wife, Norma J. Demerchant, 66, with stab wounds to the upper torso.
Sean Demerchant, 38, was still at the couple's Bush Point Terrace-area home when police arrived, and deputies took him into custody approximately an hour later.
Paul Demerchant was taken to Whidbey General Hospital in Coupeville to be treated for his injuries and is listed in good condition, according to the Island County Sheriff's Office.
Authorities said Norma Demerchant is currently in serious but stable condition at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
