The Whidbey Island League of Women Voters will host two candidate forums in early October before ballots are mailed to voters for the Nov. 8 general election.

The first forum takes place Tuesday, Oct. 4, 7 p.m. at the Coupeville Recreation Hall. Laura Blankenship and Mike Diamanti, candidates for the Port of Coupeville, are scheduled to speak. Coupeville Mayor Nancy Conard along with Coupeville Town Council members Bob Clay and Molly Hughes are running unopposed in November.

The Oak Harbor forum takes place Wednesday, Oct. 12, 7 p.m. at the Oak Harbor Elks Lodge.

Several Oak Harbor races are contested this year. Oak Harbor Mayor candidates Jim Slowik and Scott Dudley are scheduled to speak. In addition, Paul Brewer and Tara Hizon are competing for Position 1, Larry Eaton and Beth Munns are competing for Position 2 and Rick Almberg and Mel Vance are competing for position 3. Christine Abbott and John Worthington are vying for Position 2 on the Oak Harbor School Board.

All candidates at each forum will be given a few minutes to introduce themselves and then answer questions from the audience.

The forums give voters a chance to hear from candidates before casting their ballot in the mail-in election.

The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan organization dedicated to providing opportunities for informed participation in the democratic process.
