Calendars ready for Island County preschoolers
August 12, 2011 · Updated 1:17 PM
Cathy Niiro, executive director of United Way of Island County, announced that thanks to generous printing sponsorship by The Boeing Company, more than 1,500 Kindergarten Readiness Calendars are available for preschoolers in Island County.
These calendars are designed to help prepare 4-year-olds for success in kindergarten using no-cost activities that children can complete with their parents and caregivers.
“We know that parents are a child’s first and most important teacher,” Niiro said, “and we also know that children learn through play and exploration. These calendars provide easy-to-implement activities that fit into a family’s busy daily routine and also help get children ready for school.
“Whether it’s pointing out shapes while walking to the park or practicing skills like zipping on their own coat, these activities create learning moments that parents can do with their children.”
The calendars can be picked up at the United Way office at 350 SE Pioneer Way, Oak Harbor, at the Sno-Isle Library, ECEAP, Head Start, local schools and various day care centers across the county.
