A three-way race has begun for an open Oak Harbor City Council position.

Martha Yount, a regular at council meetings, filed with the Island County Elections Office in Coupeville Thursday for position 1. She will vie with former City Councilman Paul Brewer and former Oak Harbor Planning Commission member Mark Wiggins for the seat.

Yount's filing today means that the three-way race will be narrowed in the August 16 primary election. In Washington, the top two candidates proceed to the General Election in November.

Position 1 is currently held by Jim Palmer, who has decided not to run for election.
