Oak Harbor police are looking for a BB gun bandit who caused thousands of dollars of damage to parked cars this month.

Police Chief Rick Wallace said someone traveled all over the city and shot car windows with a BB gun on the night of Saturday, April 2. Windows in 16 vehicles, including two at Oak Harbor Motors, were smashed or cracked. In addition, someone slashed tires on two cars in the wee hours of the morn.

“We’re pretty sure it was just kids running around, causing damage,” Wallace said. He surmised that the shooter was probably in a car since the damage wasn’t contained to one area of the city.

Still, Wallace said the act of vandalism was costly and may be considered a felony crime.

According to the chief, investigators are looking at various videos from around the city to see who was out and about that night. He said they will also look at who recently purchased BB guns.

“It’s surprising how often that works,” he said.
