A Level 2 sex offender who's getting out of prison next week will be living at a home on Scenic Heights Road in Oak Harbor.

The Island County Sheriff's Office sent out a public notification this week about 28-year-old Chad Perdue, formerly a Coupeville resident. He was convicted of third-degree rape of a child and second-degree assault in Island County Superior Court in 2010.

Perdue has been classified as a Level 2 sex offender, which means he's considered a moderate risk of reoffending.

According to the sheriff's office, Perdue started "dating" and engaging in sex with the victim in 2006, when she was just 15 years old.

"Over time Perdue became aggressive, controlling and violent. Perdue threatened to kill his victim and her friend with a firearm. Perdue used the firearm to prevent disclosure of his actions by threatening her with physical harm and showing her the firearm. Perdue told her he was friends with the local police," the notification from the sheriff's office states.

Perdue was sentenced to a year and eight months in prison after pleading guilty to the charges early last year.

The notification emphasizes that Perdue is not wanted and that law enforcement agencies do not have the legal authority to direct where an offender lives.
