Bomb threat was a dud at Oak Harbor Middle School
March 28, 2011 · Updated 10:53 AM
At about 10:10 a.m. on Friday, a student at Oak Harbor Middle School reported finding a message on a bathroom door that read, "There is a bomb."
The students and staff were evacuated and administrators called 911.
According to Oak Harbor School District Communication Director Joe Hunt, staff members were able to identify the student that wrote the alarming message while police were still inside doing a sweep of the building. The student confessed that there wasn't a bomb inside.
"It sounds to me like they readily identified who it was and were able to clear it up pretty quickly and get the kids back to class," Hunt said.
Principal Shane Evans spoke with the students about the seriousness of making such claims and the importance of reporting any threats to teachers or administrators immediately. An email was sent home to parents detailing the incident.
Friday was the last regular school day before Oak Harbor students' week long spring break.
