A 26-year-old Oak Harbor man is going to prison for raping a grade-school girl he babysat in 2007, court documents indicate.
Christopher Miller pleaded guilty Jan. 24 to the rape of a child in the first degree.
Based on the plea bargain, the prosecution will recommend that the judge sentence Miller to seven years and nine months in prison. Since it’s a sex-related crime, the Department of Corrections is required to complete a pre-sentence investigation, with recommendations for the sentence and conditions, prior to Miller’s Feb. 22 sentencing hearing.
Detective Mike Bailey with the Oak Harbor Police investigated the sexual assault after the girl told an adult that she had been sexually assaulted when she was 7 or 8 years old.
In a taped interview with police, Miller admitted that he had sexual contact with the girl when he was babysitting the children in the family.
Miller told police that he suffered similar abuse as a teenager. He told the detective he was willing to get help for his problem, the police report states.
