New Freeland plan meets the public
August 31, 2010 · Updated 2:33 PM
Island County Planning Department will present the long awaited update to the 2007 Freeland Sub Area Plan Tuesday, Sept. 14.
A public meeting will be held at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Freeland, from 6 to 8 p.m. Two follow-up meetings at the same location will occur on Oct. 5 from 1 to 3 p.m. and Oct. 26 from 6 to 8 p.m.
The community is encouraged to review the draft Freeland Sub Area Plan prior to the meeting. A copy of the draft can be found on the county’s website or in hard-copy format at the county building in Coupeville. The upcoming meetings will give the community opportunities to provide feedback on the subarea plan.
Anthony Boscolo, planning staff member, said the Freeland Sub Area Plan has been completely updated to comply with the Growth Management Act requirements for subarea planning. The 2010 Freeland Sub Area Plan now includes elements to address land use, natural lands, civic and open space, capital facilities, utilities, transportation, economic development, and housing. The revised sub area plan will set goals and policies for future development in Freeland.
