Folks who have lived in North Whidbey for a while and follow the athletic endeavors of Oak Harbor’s youth might already be aware of the strong local tradition of excellence in competition cheerleading at the high school level. One thing people may not be aware of is that there is now a strong training base here for developing cheerleaders for the competition before they get to high school.

There were some golden sports moments in North Whidbey in 2001. Individually, Brian Lang and Missy McIntrye captured state titles, while the Coupeville volleyball team made it to the state tournament. Though not every sport is represented here, everyone who competed should be commended.
