Senate Bill 5927, being co-sponsored by state Sen. Barbara Bailey, R-Oak Harbor, is seriously flawed.
Not so much because it flies in the face of anti-discrimination laws that the majority of society supports and subscribes to, but because it’s just so darn hard sometimes to tell who the gays and lesbians are.

For years I’ve accepted as fact the notion that time spent with God will positively influence the way I approach problems and increase my joy. Time spent with God gifts us with peace and perspective, compassion and hope. With all of the horrific national news this week, bringing order to our households sounds like a healthy personal response. Organizing so we can happily function as a family is a worthy goal.
And frankly, I don’t want to move a pile of unopened mail off my kitchen table to accommodate a sit-down family meal. I don’t want to head out the door, anticipating a fun and impromptu adventure, only to discover the car gas tank is empty. These real-life situations lead to frustration. Feelings of inadequacy. Irritability and conflict.
County puts Noble Creek on hold

Island County put the brakes on a plan to help Langley pay for an eight-acre conservation easement this week.
On Monday, the Board of Commissioners was scheduled to vote on a contract that would have provided the city with $175,000 in conservation futures funding for the Noble Creek project.
Port of Coupeville commissioners apologize for remarks made months ago

Commissioners for the Port of Coupeville are apologizing for comments made several months ago about a Greenbank resident’s perusal of district records while the port office was unattended and door locked.
Commissioners Marshal Bronson and Benye Weber were openly critical of Greenbank resident Rick Abraham after Bronson spotted him examining records on the port computer.
