Man jumps off Deception Pass Bridge
Apr 29 2013, 2:55 PM A 28-year-old Bellingham man committed suicide Thursday morning by leaping from Deception Pass Bridge, according to Island County Coroner Robert Bishop. Bishop said a man driving over Deception Pass saw a pedestrian walking along the bridge. After passing the pedestrian, the driver said he looked in his rearview mirror and noticed the man had disappeared.

Our environment should be of the highest priority, especially because ours, Whidbey Island, is a particularly fragile one. I say this because this Earth is our home, we all live here, Democrats and Republicans, rich and poor, young and old. The current state of our Earth is neither healthy or sustainable.

After 20 years as the Oak Harbor School District's superintendent, Schulte is leaving to take on the same role on the other side of the Cascade Mountains. The Richland School District announced Monday that it has selected Schulte as its new superintendent. Pending contract negotiations, he will start his new job on July 1.
