Tavern wants city of Oak Harbor to compensate for biz losses
Apr 29 2013, 2:26 PM Swinomish Tribal Community may not be alone in suing the City of Oak Harbor over the inadvertent discovery of Native American remains during the 2011 Pioneer Way project. An attorney representing owners of Oak Harbor Tavern sent a letter to the city last month, demanding $100,000 to compensate the business for lost revenue due to restricted or limited access to the establishment during a nine-month period. Seattle attorney Catherine Clark said in a letter that Kelly and Clifford Beedle, who’ve owned the tavern for 18 years, are prepared to file a lawsuit on the inverse condemnation claim.
Law, justice ballot proposal goes to Island County commissioners
Apr 29 2013, 2:28 PM Island County Law and Justice Council formalized its hopes for a $2.6 million fall ballot measure this week when the group unanimously approved a recommendation to move forward with the request. The council, an advisory group comprised of police, court, municipal leaders and community members from Whidbey and Camano islands, decided it was time to proceed with the property tax and passed a resolution urging the Island County Commissioners to formally green light the proposal.
Suspect in burglary sought by Island County sheriff

Robert Dean Burns, 25, is a fugitive from justice and is wanted on warrants out of Island County, Oak Harbor and Renton, Brown said.
Man jumps off Deception Pass Bridge
Apr 29 2013, 2:55 PM A 28-year-old Bellingham man committed suicide Thursday morning by leaping from Deception Pass Bridge, according to Island County Coroner Robert Bishop. Bishop said a man driving over Deception Pass saw a pedestrian walking along the bridge. After passing the pedestrian, the driver said he looked in his rearview mirror and noticed the man had disappeared.

Disappointed in Island County recycling decision | Letters
Apr 29 2013, 2:58 PM I was very disappointed in our community leaders when the recycling initiative was repealed. Our environment should be of the highest priority, especially because ours, Whidbey Island, is a particularly fragile one. I say this because this Earth is our home, we all live here, Democrats and Republicans, rich and poor, young and old. The current state of our Earth is neither healthy or sustainable.
